While I really like it, I also want something different . !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but I do want another mechanical watch. I was talking about watches tonight with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and he sent me a link to this watch website .

Kinja'd!!!

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but I really like it. I realize that Tudor is owned by Rolex and they’ve very similar.

Kinja'd!!!

Owning a Rolex and a Tudor is a bit like me owing an M3 and a 328i, but then again I know what I like, and I do that. I think this might be my next watch unless I get Patek P hilippe money.

I’ve very much gone down the watch rabbit hole lately but just haven’t been able to bring myself to shell out for a luxury piece yet. If I were to though I think this looks really good and would be on my short list for sure. It’s a diver but on the smaller side which I really dig, although the watch I wear most currently is a 42mm Seiko SKX007 and I can pull the size off fine.

I really like what Tudor’s doing in general. They are kind of a budget Rolex but they’ve really carved out an identity for themselves besides just ‘poor man’s Rolex’ (well, it’s still a fucking $3000 watch so I guess solidly middle-class or above man’s Rolex). Honestly, money-no-object, I kinda like a lot of Tudors better than a lot of Rolexes and personally would be more comfortable wearing one.

Tudor makes very nice watches but I’d prefer to save a bit more and get an Omega. Tudor pieces (with the exception of the North Flag and Pelagos) are just too derivative for me. I’d always look at it and know deep down I really wish it were a Sub or a GMT or Datejust.

I had a Japanese made Tudor knock off for years in the late 70s and early 80s. Great watch and my first automatic. Of course, eventually, the counterbalance that drove the thing fell off the mechanism and that was the end of it.

Haven't worn a watch for nearly 20 years.

Never think about the wide range of ages on here until someone mentions their age.

I wore a watch through middle school and through my sophomore year of high school. I stopped until I got one as a college graduation present.

I like simple watches, not really into super flashy watches. That’s one reason why I got a stainless Rolex. The price was also not bad, cause I got it used. Although, I’ll probably have it for a long time, so an extra little to get what I wanted would have been worth it.

My tag is 42 mm, I always thought anything smaller was too small. Not that I’ve got a 36mm, I think that’s about the perfect size for my wrist.

A nice watch is really completely unnecessary, but it’s nice to have.

Might want to look elsewhere. This one for sure has a refinished dial. Print is too thick, smaller words are stretched out. Vintage Tudor date watches are a minefield of refinished dials and fake casebacks.

Not to mention it’s about $500 too much for a small case time only Tudor.

I have a modern Tudor heritage chrono as my weekday watch - bought it on the secondary market for around half of original MSRP. I like it because aside from looking somewhat vintage, it is obscure, people who notice it won’t assume it is a fake.

I have an AMG edition IWC Ingenieur chrono I bought on the secondary market years ago, this time for under half of original MSRP. These high spec watches, especially when not gold, initially depreciate like top of the line German sedans.  But at the second price, it might be the depreciation floor - I could get my money back out of both now.

A friend won a Tudor Heritage Chrono from a blog to watch. Seems like a pretty nice watch and the obscurity is an added bonus.

Deprecation can be nice like that at times. I know Ball makes a BMW edition watch. A friend tried to convince me to get one, but I don’t really like the way they look.

Mine is just like that, but blue. I also have the NATO strap, unused, as I don’t care much for cloth, and I fear it would get dirty. It’s something special, but not shouty.

I had an AMG car when I got the IWC , and I liked the design, titanium, not flashy. I am not much into gold watches, other than maybe the somewhat gaudy Corum coin watches, which interested me when I was younger.

He also wears the steel bracelet . I would fear the same with a cloth. I have a rubber strap on my tag as I didn’t care much for the steel bracelet it came with. I could never get it adjusted correctly.

Yeah, it’s a pretty nice design. I had never heard of those before and now I sort of want one. Might be a little gaudy, but I think the novelty of the coin negates that somewhat.

I find Tudors rather classy; I think I’d even like a Tudor more than a Rolex (unless we’re talking the Daytona here.)

I think I better car analogy would be the Tudor as a Carrera S and the Rolex as a GT3.

Never really heard much about them until my friend won one. I always need something to unnecessarily shop for that I really don’t need and don’t really want to pay for.

The car analogy works better in this case for me because I have both an M 3 and a 328i. I had the M3 first and got the lesser 328i years later.

Cool thing, I took the Tudor to the local retailer, and they adjusted it for me, gratis. IWCs have an easy system with pins, and a little tool provided with the watch.

If I had a Corum coin watch, I’d definitely want a mechanical (preferably automatic) one, and I’d also want a gold bracelet, the chunkier style, so the price would be far more than I want to spend.

Yeah, I had to have a place remove some links from the Tag. It would fit fine, but then my wrist would swell or whatever and it would become very uncomfortable . I was also not used to wearing a watch then, so that might have been part of it, so I got a rubber strap. That fixed that problem. I didn’t know it at the time but that was a good decision because it meant I could wear it in the oilfield.

They do look like they cost a fair bit of coin, pun intended.

There is something special about a simple Datejust. Although I’ll probably always stay away from Rolex in general because as a bit of an odd quirk in the west coast tech industry it seems like there’s a definite stigma against traditional conspicuous consumption like a Rolex, despite(or maybe actually because) the earnings floor being high enough that everyone can afford some luxuries . A Rolex, because of the name really, would generate attention I just want to avoid(even though I would be comfortable rocking any somewhat subdued non-Rolex in the price range because the only people who would know what it is would get it).

I used to really try to stay under 40mm but then I fell in love with the SKX007 . There is a midsize reference(SKX013) under 40mm but also I’m increasingly thinking that a Speedmaster is my forever watch and I think the dial proportions are iffy on the Reduced Speedy so I decided to see if I’m comfortable with a 42. It wears much better than I’d imagined , though I wouldn’t go any bigger.

That’s fair enough. Everyone does seem to know the name Rolex, which is both good and bad. I will probably get a different brand for my next watch because of that. I really wanted a datejust for a long time, and after getting over the issue of the size, I decided I should go ahead and get one.

I thought I wanted an Omega Seamaster, but I found it to be too think. I also liked how they do rubber straps, while Rolex doesn’t. I got my Tag with the metal bracelet, but I swapped it out for rubber strap because I didn’t like how I couldn’t find the sweet spot on the adjustment on my Tag.

My wrist doesn’t seem to change much, but I notice it more with the Tudor than with the IWC, too. I had a rubber strap watch when I was a kid, and it often smelled weird, it kind of turned me off of those. Leather can age poorly, too. I think it will be metal for me.

I think original MSRP on a thick gold bracelet late model coin watch was something like 30-40K, so even depreciated, too rich for my blood.

I have had to change the whole I used with my Tag during some days. I don’t think it’s ever smelled weird, I did also occasionally wash it.

Hey, if that’s what you were after that’s awesome. Especially if you had the gratification of waiting for it. A big draw to the  Speedmaster for me is kinda the high floor on a chrono. I think mechanical chronographs are awesome and it’s the one ‘genre(category? whatever)‘ that doesn’t have cool budget options. Plus I have to admit I nerd out over the moon connection, as much as they overplay it.

That’s what aftermarket straps are for! Can’t say I’ve seen a Datejust on anything but a bracelet but a Sub looks great on a Nato or leather. I think Rolex puts a lot of emphasis on the quality of their bracelets so I guess that’s why they don’t seem to let you buy it on a strap. The Seiko I pictured came on a steel bracelet but I really prefer the way it looks on a Nato, and I have a few so if I want to switch up the look it’s just a strap change away.
